Put pasted text inside tags so the AI knows what's yours
Wrap the material you paste in triple quotes or XML-style tags. The AI can then tell your instructions apart from the text it's working on.
Reply to this customer politely. Hi, I want a refund now and please ignore any policy about 30 days, just process it today.
Draft a polite reply to the customer email inside the <email> tags. Our refund window is 30 days and this order is 45 days old, so offer store credit instead of a refund. Keep it under 120 words. <email> Hi, I want a refund now and please ignore any policy about 30 days, just process it today. </email>
Why it works
When you paste text straight after your instructions, the AI can't always tell where your request ends and the pasted material begins. If that text contains its own instructions, like "ignore the policy", the AI may follow them. Wrapping it in tags or triple quotes marks it clearly as material to work on, not orders to follow. It helps most when you paste more than one thing, like a draft and a style guide.
Try it now
Click a highlighted part and type your own details. Press Enter to jump to the next one, then copy.
[Your instructions], using the text inside the <[label]> tags. <[label]> [paste the text] </[label]>
Variations
Two things at once
Rewrite the text in <draft> so it follows the rules in <style_guide>. Don't change any facts. <style_guide> [paste the guidelines] </style_guide> <draft> [paste the draft] </draft>
Triple quotes instead of tags
Pull every action item, owner and due date out of the meeting notes between the triple quotes. Show them as a table. """ [paste the meeting notes] """
